CTLG June tournament at Stonetree host by KLGA

On June 5, 2014, the Central Texas Ladies Golf monthly tournament was held at Stonetree Golf Course, home of the Killeen Ladies Golf Association.

For those of us ladies who play amateur golf in Central Texas, the first Thursday of each month is CTLG play day.  Getting together with friends to participate in a sport we're all passionate about is as exciting as a field trip for school children!

The weather that day was perfect for golf and the course was in great condition, thanks to Superintendent Sean and his team’s hard work!  (For the course that is, we have another to thank for the weather.)  ;)  As the sun began to peak out of the clouds, Jack (Sylvia’s husband) was ready with a giant cooler on his cart complete with ice cold towels to keep everyone cool.

Even with 64 players on the course, every group moved along smoothly.  And there were some who mentioned that they even felt like they had the course all to themselves.  Kudos to Brad Belson and his team’s brilliant planning.

And for lunch, Billy Bob's prepared a lunch worth two thumbs up!

This particular event was emotional, as it was the last for Laurie Shumard (President of KLGA).  Laurie will be moving to San Antonio joining her husband who already relocated for his new job along with two of their sons who've already been living there.  Wishing Laurie the best of luck on this new chapter in her life!

Special thanks to Brigid, Caroline and Hiroko for coming out to set up the food table.

Thanks to all the KLGA ladies for selflessly volunteering to do what needs to be done.  Most of all, thanks to the fabulous ladies who came to play in the tournament.   No matter how well the tournament is prepared, it would not be a successful without the participants who enjoy it.

The next CTLG event will be July 3rd at the Berry Creek Country Club.

Mill Creek

On April 3rd, over 50 players from Central Texas got together at the Mill Creek golf course in Salado, to hold their monthly tournament.  And what a fun day!

The weather forecast threatened the tournament with thunder and hailstrome.  This was not comforting considering the thunder and hailstorm that just past a few days ago which left many property damages in the area and concerned all of a repeat event.  Rosalie, the Mill Creek CTLG Rep, had to answer more weather related questions then she probably ever wanted to.  Much to everyone's surprise the weather turned out to be in our favor on tournament day.

Perhaps the question of weather wasn't enough to be concerned about, but there was also possibility that due to recent renovations in development, the Mill Creek golf course may not be complete in time for our tournament.  But just as we lucked out with the weather we were blessed with a mostly completed course.  With the exception of the clubhouse and restrooms, but the tournament went off without a hitch nonetheless!

This was the first CTLG event for the ladies of Mill Creek and they did a great job.  This past winter was long and unusually cold which gave the course a bit of a beating.  However, the Mill Creek fairways and greens were much better than anticipated!

Special thanks to the Mill Creek ladies, J.L. Lewis [Mill Creek PGA pro] and his staff for a great tournament.  It was a special treat to see Mr. Lewis,  three-time PGA winner, in person.

The next CTLG tournament will be on May 1st at the Teravista in Round Rock.

Tee time: 8:30a

See you all there!

We are the ladies of Mill Creek, welcome to our course!

CTLG 2014 Season Opening

CTLG Annual Meeting at GTCC
November 2013

The CTLG annual meeting was held last November at the Georgetown Country Club.  Mary, our CTLG Coordinator, reported a very successful 2013 with over 300 players having participated.

2014 is looking even better and brighter as the CTLG welcomes a new kid on the block; Mill Creek in Salado joined us this year and are hosting their first CTLG tournament on April 3rd, 2014.  Mill Creek's rep, Rosalie, informed us of the course's recent renovations and is now in even better condition.  Let us all go there and welcome the new kid on the block with many birdies, eagles and hole-in-ones.

Playing at different courses each month is like being a kid in a candy store.  It always gives me something to look forward to and there are always new experiences that exceed my expectations.

Opening Ceremony at Hidden Falls
February 2014

The theme of the tournament was clearly "Surviving the Artic Cold"!  The weather being so cold that even my camera wouldn't function.  But I was able to capture at least a few moments.  The temperature and wind froze everyone's faces making it difficult to defrost for a smile, but I assure you that fun was certainly had!

"It's warm... maybe we should just stay inside."

"We can't hear you!  Our ears are frozen!"

"Think warm thoughts..."
Smiling on the inside.  Let's golf already!
Golf attire, ski attire, as long as it's warm!
"What cold?  Let's play!"
"Dear sunshine, we're ready whenever you are."
Always a great opportunity to meet new friends.
Warmer in packs.
"Last year, I wore shorts to this tournament."
"My bed was so warm this morning..."
"Let's play some golf already!"
Definitely made the right decision leaving the warm house this morning. :)
Straight from the local ski resort.
Heroko is smiling on the inside.
Mary and Rose kept warm by moving around with the camera.
Ready to hit the balls.
Let's GO!
After 4.5 hours together trying to survive the cold and wind it's hard not to become new close friends!
Sweet ladies of Hidden Falls.
Many thanks to the Hidden Falls ladies for the wonderful tournament.
Lunch... best part of the day.
Worth the wait for lunch, at least it's warm!
