Over the Fifty and Fabulous Golfers
By Yong
My love for golf is not about how well I play, how I look
good in golf attires, or how often I play.
It’s all about how much fun I have with my like-minded friends. Most of the ladies I play with have worked
hard raising children, have had thriving careers in their earlier life and are now
enjoying ”retired” life by their own design.
Not everyone is that blessed, and we are all appreciative to be in this
space.
Playing golf on my home course as often as I can is fun but
playing in a tournament adds another level of fun and excitement. The monetary
rewards are meager but the bragging rights bring in a mega amount of satisfaction.
If my skill for golf equaled my passion, I would be a single
handicap player. Most of the time though, it is not often enough. The wins come
to me as surprise, like getting an unexpected gift. And who doesn’t like surprise gifts? Just ask
any of my granddaughters!
For me the best part of playing in the tournaments is after
the rounds are done and we adjourn to the 19th hole. Yes, I often said I play for lunch, but the
best part of the day is listening to the conversations among the players.
If I could record the post-tournament conversations, it
would be great material for SNL skits. So many “almost” and “barely got away
shots”... If it weren’t for all those nearly
missed shots, we’d all be in the LPGA.
The generous tails of pars, birdies, eagles, even
hole-in-ones and closest to the pins and more…
Fish tales have nothing on golf tales.
Ah… the agony of golfers equals their pleasure.
And we do this month after month and year after year. The
Central Texas Ladies Golf Association offers many excellent opportunities to
test different course with familiar faces. And spin new golf tales, of course.
LIFE IS GOOD when you can play golf as often as possible,
especially if you are blessed to be in good health.
Hooray for all those over the fifty and fabulous golfers!
